International Day of Non-Violence: Peace is an Infrastructure

What if the difference between escalation and peace was simply being recognized as a person—in real time? Non-violence isn’t just a value. It’s an infrastructure. Nonviolence builds dignity.
Today, on Gandhi’s birthday and the UN’s International Day of Non-Violence, we’re reminded that dignity isn’t an abstract value—it's a daily need. Yet, in too many moments with law enforcement, healthcare, or institutions, people still go unseen. When recognition is missing, conflict escalates. Opportunities for help are lost. Lustitia Aequalis is focusing on systems that prevent escalation: clear recognition, fast routing to help, and documentation that travels with the person—across work, school, and healthcare.
Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees the right to recognition everywhere. At Lustitia Aequalis, we’ve made it our mission to turn that principle into practice. Our Witness app protects people by ensuring their presence is seen, recorded, and, if needed, routed to help—before harm can escalate.
Non-violence isn't passive—it's a system we build, choice by choice, encounter by encounter.
How do you ensure that dignity and recognition are protected in high-stress situations? What’s one change you’d make if you could?
