Right #7 of 30: Equality Before the Law
Part of Lustitia Aequalis’ campaign to spotlight all 30 Universal Human Rights
Right #7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) says:“All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.”
This is the 7th of 30 rights in our series to highlight each article of the UDHR and show how it applies in everyday life.
We begin a new week alongside Banned Books Week (Oct 5–11). Why pair these together? Because equality before the law depends on equal access to truth. If records are hidden—whether in court files, public archives, or even libraries—protection is uneven. Censorship anywhere creates inequality everywhere.
🔑 Why this matters :
Access to information sets the tone for the week ahead—at work, in schools, in courts, and in healthcare.
When some people have access to the record and others don’t, equality is already compromised.
Justice requires consistency: not just on weekends or at moments of crisis, but every single day.
